A note before you dive in
Hills2Homes is a small family farm operation, not a warehouse. We hand-pack every order the day it ships, gather what's fresh from our farm and the neighbors we trust, and do our best to make sure your food arrives the way we'd want it on our own table. That means we work by season, sometimes by weather, and always by hand. What you're getting is real food from real people — and this page is here to help set the right expectations so we can be a good fit for your family.
About the Membership
Do I need to be a member to shop?
No — anyone can shop and place an order. But members save meaningfully on every order:
- Members: Free shipping on orders over $125, or a small 10% shipping fee on orders under $125.
- Non-members: 25% shipping fee on every order, regardless of size.
Membership pays for itself quickly if Hills2Homes is going to be part of your regular rhythm.
What does membership cost?
Two options:
- Monthly: $35/month — flexible, cancel anytime
- Annual: $350/year — that's $70 less than paying monthly all year (two months free)
Both memberships unlock the same perks. Choose based on how sure you are that Hills2Homes is for you.
Which membership should I choose?
If you're new and want to try it out first, start monthly — no long-term commitment and you can cancel anytime. If you already know Hills2Homes will be part of your regular routine, annual saves you $70.
What do I actually get as a member?
- Free shipping on orders over $125 (or a small 10% fee under $125 — non-members pay 25% flat)
- A free item every month — 12 per year, on us
- $35 credit for every friend you refer — unlimited
- Weekly Monday - Wednesday delivery
- Access to subscription orders so your favorites arrive automatically
How does the free monthly item work?
Once a month, we add one free item to your order — 12 per year, on us. It rotates so it stays interesting: a wedge of cheese, a half-pound of beef, a package of bacon, a container of yogurt, or another farm favorite. We'll note it on your order so you know what you're getting.
How does the referral credit work?
Send a friend our way and once they become a member and place an order, you get your membership fee waived No cap — refer as many friends as you'd like. Just make sure they mention your name when they sign up so we can match the credit to your account.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes, anytime.
- Monthly members: Cancel before your next billing date and you won't be charged again.
- Annual members: You can cancel at any point, but annual memberships are non-refundable. Your membership stays active through the end of your paid year.
What if my order is late in the month — do I still get my free item?
Yes. As long as you place at least one order during the month, your free item comes with it. If you skip a month entirely, that free item doesn't roll over — but you'll get the next one on your next order.
Ordering
When do I need to place my order?
Orders for the upcoming Monday - Wednesday delivery need to be placed by Thursday at 12:00 PM (noon) the week before. That gives us time to gather everything fresh, make the dairy that needs making, and pack it cold for the trip.
Why is there a Thursday cutoff — nearly a full week ahead?
Because we make a lot of your food fresh for your order. Yogurt, kefir, cream cheese, and similar fresh dairy need lead time — we can't pull them off a shelf. Meat orders need to be pulled, cut, and packed. Working a week ahead is how a small farm gets you food that's actually fresh instead of food that's been sitting.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes — $75 is the order minimum for everyone. This helps us keep our routes efficient and our packing costs honest.
Can I edit my order after I check out?
No, we're so sorry for the inconvenience. Please send us a direct Email at ghnovahills2homes@gmail.com BEFORE Saturday Noon, to make any adjustments. Your final invoice reflects everything you ended up with, and you'll receive it by email once your order ships.
Do you offer subscription orders?
Yes. If you have items you want every week or every other week, set them up as a subscription order and they'll be added to your cart automatically. You can skip a delivery, add extras, or cancel a standing order any time before the Thursday cutoff.
What if you're out of something I ordered?
Farms aren't factories. Thank goodness! Sometimes a cow has a slow week, or a batch of dairy doesn't yield what we hoped. When that happens, we'll email you before delivery to let you know. If there's enough time, you can either substitute another item, take a credit toward your next order (if already billed), or wait for it to come back in stock. You'll never be charged for something we can't deliver.
Can I add a special request or note to my order?
Absolutely. There's a comment field at checkout — leave notes about substitutions you'd accept, delivery instructions, or anything else you want us to know. We read every one.
Delivery & Shipping
When do you deliver?
Every Monday - Wednesday. We may add a second delivery day as we grow, but Wednesday is always on.
Where do you deliver?
Nationwide. We ship anywhere in the continental United States via FedEx or UPS. Most orders arrive within 1–3 business days of shipment, depending on how far you are from our Pennsylvania farm.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is a percentage of your order subtotal:
| Order under $125 | Order over $125 | |
|---|---|---|
| Members | 10% | FREE |
| Non-Members | 25% | 25% |
Members save on every order — and once you cross $125, shipping is on us.
How is my order kept cold in transit?
Every order is hand-packed in insulated boxes with ice packs, and we add dry ice for frozen items when the weather calls for it. We've been shipping perishable food this way for years and have the process dialed in — your food arrives cold and ready for the fridge. In the rare instance the meat is thawed BUT cold, it's OK to put it straight into the freezer; it is NOT spoiled.
What about summer / warm-weather shipping?
Summer heat means we take extra care — more ice, more dry ice, tighter packing. We ship everything the same way regardless of season, so you don't have to pick a shipping option or pay extra to make sure things arrive frozen. That said, in July and August we recommend not leaving your box on the porch all day — bring it in as soon as you can after it arrives.
What if I'm not home when it arrives?
We do provide tracking information for you to plan ahead. Deliveries are dropped at your door in insulated packaging designed to hold cold for a few more hours. Bring it in as soon as you can — within a few hours is ideal.
What if my order arrives damaged or something is missing?
We do our best, but transit isn't always kind. If something arrives damaged or is missing from your order:
- Take a photo of the damage or missing item area
- Email us at ghnovahills2homes@gmail.com within 48 hours of delivery
- Include a brief description of what happened and photos.
We'll respond within one business day and either credit your account or replace the item on your next Wednesday delivery. Eggs are the most fragile thing we ship — if you find broken ones, let us know and we'll replace them.
Products & Standards
Where does the food come from?
From Johnny's family farm and a small circle of neighboring farms we've known for years. Real farms, real families, raised right — no anonymous supply chains, no mystery. We only work with farms whose standards match ours.
What are your farming standards?
Our animals are raised on pasture, the Amish way our family has practiced for generations. No hormones, no antibiotics, no shortcuts we wouldn't take for our own family's table. Dairy is done honestly, animals are treated well, and everything we sell we'd feed our own kids. We abide by C.A.R.E. standards and thus why we have a private membership agreement with them and our customers.
Is your dairy safe?
Yes. We follow strict sanitary practices from milking through packing to keep our dairy clean and safe. Our family's been doing this for generations — quality and safety are how we've kept our customers and our reputation. If you want to read more about our approach to dairy safety, drop us a note and we'll send you our full standards document.
Payment & Cancellations
How do I pay?
We accept credit cards and ACH/e-check through our secure checkout. Add your preferred payment method when you sign up, and you'll be charged one time when your order ships — no surprise second charges.
When is my card charged?
Once. When your final order is packed and ready to go out. Your invoice reflects exactly what shipped, no more and no less. Once a month to cover your monthly membership or annual membership on the 5th of each month/annual renewal.
What if I need to cancel an order?
Life happens — we get it. Here's how our cancellation window works:
- Cancel by Saturday at noon: No charge, no fee. Your order is fully cancelled.
- Cancel between Saturday noon and Monday 8:00 AM: A 20% cancellation fee applies, because your order has already begun being pulled and packed by hand.
- After Saturday noon: Cancellations are not guaranteed — we may have already started fulfilling your order and can't always reverse it.
To cancel, email us as early as possible at ghnovahills2homes@gmail.com. If you'd rather take store credit instead of a refund, we can waive the fee — the credit stays on your account for any future order.
Getting Help
Who do I contact if I have a question?
Email us at ghnovahills2homes@gmail.com — we usually respond within one business day. For faster answers to common questions, check this FAQ first; it covers most of what comes up.
Can I contact Johnny directly?
Johnny's usually out on the farm — that's where he needs to be. For most things (orders, delivery, membership, food questions) our support email is the fastest way to get help. If a question really needs Johnny's ear, we'll pass it along.
I referred a friend but I don't see my credit — what should I do?
Send us a note at ghnovahills2homes@gmail.com and we'll track it down. Sometimes referrals get missed if the new member forgets to mention who sent them, but we're happy to look it up and get your credit applied.
I'm having trouble with the website — who do I contact?
Same email — ghnovahills2homes@gmail.com. Include what page you were on and what you tried to do; that helps us diagnose faster.
